Council tax bombshell
Croydon's Conservative Mayor and 33 councillors have voted for the biggest Council Tax rise in Britain - a massive 15% increase.
John has campaigned and succeeded on many local transport and other issues. As a qualified architect, he worked on housing and with planners. Fighting over-development, he wants the right housing in the right places. His small business employed six staff in Purley.
In 1997 he was given an MBE by the Queen for a vast amount of voluntary work that included MP and councillor casework. More recently in the pandemic, he volunteered admin at Surrey Physio and at a main Croydon vaccination centre.
He is also passionate about planning matters, the environment and protecting green spaces.
As chair of the Vanguard Way Association, he works with 4 local Authorities and volunteers to manage and maintain a 66 mile trail from Croydon to the Sussex coast, promoting health rambling, running and sports activities. He is the official photographer of various local marathons and designed and produced an app to guide walkers on the Vanguard Way.
John has lived locally for over 60 years. He is married with two grown-up daughters.
