Lib Dems call for action on fly-tipping concerns

HLD

Haringey Liberal Democrats have called for the council to take action on fly tipping, after enquiries revealed the scale of the problem.

Questions submitted to the council by the Lib Dem group revealed that 24,445 reports of dumped rubbish or fly tips were submitted to either the council or Veolia in 2021, and this rose to a staggering 28,284 incidents in 2022. That is equivalent to over 75 reports each day.

Commenting on the figures, Cllr Scott Emery (LD-Highgate), Opposition Spokesperson for the Environment, said:
“Fly-tipping is a blight on our borough’s streets, and tougher enforcement by both the council and the police is clearly needed. Haringey residents deserve to live in a safe, clean borough, and the figures revealed by our questioning show that far more time and energy needs to be spent on getting to grips with this issue.”
