Lib Dem Budget Amendments Rejected

HLD

Labour councillors voted down Liberal Democrats' amendments to Haringey's budget last night (2nd March), rejecting fully costed proposals such as one off payments to the poorest families and pensioners, and new youth clubs, which would double as warm places for children to stay after school.

Other amendments rejected included the creation of a voluntary council tax top up scheme for wealthier residents to contribute to, and undertaking a business case review into commercially letting a vacant building.

Liberal Democrats also expressed concern about the spiralling cost of the council's borrowing, which in a worst case scenario could lead to the council going bankrupt, and having to slash the services it provides.
