Labour proposes charging for public tennis courts ... again

Haringey Lib Dems have relaunched a petition against charging for public tennis courts, after the Labour run council proposed introducing them. Together with residents, the Lib Dems forced a u-turn on similar proposals in late 2020.

Hidden in a 700 page document behind obscure wording, Haringey has announced that once again they are going to try and start charging for our public tennis courts. Charging for courts raises a tiny amount of money - less than the council spends advertising itself on social media platforms! Councillors have a chance to stop the cuts at the beginning of March, and the more signatures the Lib Dem petition gets, the better the chance the council will back down as they did a couple of years ago.

Haringey Lib Dems believe that access to council courts should remain free for everyone, much like access to parks and playgrounds, and that the introduction of charges will disproportionately affect the poorest in our borough, who are already more likely to have limited outdoor and play space of their own.
