Haringey Liberal Democrats condemn in the strongest terms the racist violence and intimidation we have seen over the past week. Haringey is a welcoming, diverse and inclusive borough and there is no place or tolerance for racism or Islamophobia here.

Haringey Liberal Democrats stand united with Haringey Council and our residents against bigotry and hate.

Haringey has a proud history of anti-racism, including the Battle of Ducketts Common in the 1970s, when protestors refused to let a National Front march pass. Those who stand for tolerance will always outnumber those who stir division and hatred, as the huge marches across the country yesterday showed.

If you or anyone you know is affected by a hate crime you can report it here: www.report-it.org.uk/home. Reporting these crimes will help police to measure local community tensions and allocate resources accordingly. Let’s show those who seek to divide us that we are united, and that there is no place for hate in Haringey.
