Haringey adult social care services ‘require improvement’
Following a report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC), Haringey has been handed a grade of 'requires improvement'. Of the nine areas measured, seven require improvement and just two are good.
In particular the CQC highlighted that most feedback from unpaid carers was negative, and that the council performed 'significantly worse' than national averages in several areas around carers' support.
Cllr Pippa Connor, Haringey Liberal Democrats’ Opposition Spokesperson on Adult Services, said:
“This is a really disappointing report for Haringey. Though I am pleased to see a robust performance in important areas like safeguarding, the overall result of this inspection shows that the council is letting down thousands of the most vulnerable people in our borough.
"In particular, Haringey's negative treatment of unpaid carers should be a source of alarm. Liberal Democrats nationally have shone a spotlight on how unfairly carers are treated, and to find that Haringey is 'significantly worse' than even the terrible national baseline is very disheartening, and requires swift and meaningful action. Liberal Democrats are proud to be the party of carers, and it clearer than ever that Labour must give supporting carers a much higher priority.”
