Concerns about Crouch End crash raised with borough commander

Haringey Lib Dem police spokesperson, Cllr Martin Newton has written to Victor Olisa, the Borough Commander asking for steps to be taken, to ensure the public are safe, when the police are pursuing suspected criminals.

Cllr Newton raised his concerns with Victor Olisa after a car being pursued by police vehicles crashed into a shopfront in Park Road, Crouch End, on the morning of Monday 25 January.

Cllr Martin Newton, Haringey Lib Dems police spokesperson, comments:

“Whilst I understand that Police officers have a very difficult job to do and criminals to apprehend, residents and businesses were shocked by the incident and are concerned that pedestrians and business staff could have easily been injured.

“Obviously it is very important to reassure the community that police car pursuits are carefully controlled in heavily built-up areas and shopping centres so as not to endanger innocent people. Therefore I have written to the Borough Commander asking him to outline the measures to ensure the personal safety of the community during these incidents.”
