Civic Centre costs balloon to £70 million

The cost of upgrading Haringey's council offices has ballooned from £24 million when it was originally planned, up to £58 million by January 2022, and now up to £70 million - meaning the cost has almost tripled.

Liberal Democrats had previously predicted the costs of the office refurbishment would spiral, and dubbed the scheme as a 'vanity project', as the council prioritises new offices during a cost of living crisis.

Cllr Luke Cawley-Harrison (LD-Crouch End), Leader of the Opposition in Haringey, said:

"The Labour-run council continuing to plough ahead with this costly scheme is crazy during a cost of living crisis. The council should exist to improve the lives of Haringey residents, not to spend money on itself. Labour councillors should hang their heads in shame for continuing to vote through this wasteful project, when we could be spending on our borough's most vulnerable."
