Cllr Dawn Barnes, Matthew Bentham & Viv Ross
Your Fortis Green 2026 Lib Dem Candidates
Our Priorities for Fortis Green
1) Safer Communities
We want our community to feel safe at home and on the streets, with action on burglaries and shoplifting.
We are committed to working with the police and council to tackle crime and make our roads safer.
2) An Open and Transparent Council
We want a council that is open, listens to residents, and communicates clearly. Decisions should be transparent, and community concerns properly considered.
3) Warm & Well-Maintained Homes
Council housing repairs in Haringey are too slow, with multiple jobs required to fix simple problems, leaving residents waiting too long for essential fixes and increasing costs. Meanwhile damp and mould issues remain widespread.
We want a council that responds quickly, keeps homes safe and well-maintained, and listens to residents’ concerns.
About Us
Cllr Dawn Barnes
A Haringey resident for 15 years and a local councillor here for eight, Dawn is standing for re-election to continue being your local champion, representing the residents of Fortis Green.
She is a marketing and communications professional and has worked for charities, a sustainable developer and, most recently, in education.
She's a governor at Tetherdown School and an adviser to a neurodivergent community interest company delivering arts projects, including a camera obscura at Alexandra Palace.
Matthew Bentham
Matthew is a local resident of Fortis Green and has been a community campaigner in the area for the past eight years.
He is passionate about health and adult social care, and works as a neuroscientist researching Alzheimer’s Disease.
He has supported local food banks and worked with the community to improve our area. He stood as your Liberal Democrat candidate in Fortis Green in 2022 missing out on being elected by just 38 votes.
Viv Ross
Viv was born in Alexandra Park Road and has lived in Muswell Hill for most of his life.
He went to Tetherdown School as a child and enlisted in the army soon after leaving secondary school. After serving his country, he joined a multinational entertainment firm and retired from a senior management role after working for them for forty-two years.
He was first elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor in south east London in 1994 and later served as a Haringey councillor in Fortis Green ward for eight years between 2014 and 2022, narrowly losing in 2022 by just 79 votes.

Pledge your support
If you value the work the Lib Dems do locally and want to see a fresh start at Haringey Council pledge your support for us in the 2026 Haringey Council elections.
Help turn Haringey orange this May
One of the most important things you can do – apart from voting of course – is allow us to put up one of our orange signs at the front of your property.
You will be familiar with them - the orange diamond boards, similar to an estate agent’s sign, which say ‘Liberal Democrats’ on them. They are by far the best way to show how much support there is locally and remind people to vote.
Fill out your details below to request a board today. We have window posters too!
