Sutton Lib Dems: Reporting back
Campaigning on the issues that matter to local people
Your local Lib Dem team has been fighting for Sutton, Cheam and Worcester Park over the past year. Here is just some of what they've been working on:
HEATH & CARE
Lib Dems are standing up for our NHS.
They are protecting vital care services, like Admiral Nurses for dementia care and Meals on Wheels for the elderly.
Lib Dems are also fighting to make GP services more accessible, to overhaul NHS dentistry and to tackle ambulance response times.
HIGH STREETS
Lib Dems are working to revitalise our high streets -- bringing in new shops, restaurants, public services and more.
On Sutton High Street, Lib Dem-run Sutton Council has brought in the Oru Sutton co-working space and brought empty and derelict buildings back to life.
They are also redeveloping St Nicholas Shopping Centre, renovating the old Chicago’s nightclub into a cinema and community arts venue, and creating a new home for Sutton College opposite ASDA.
COST OF LIVING
Lib Dems are fighting for real action on the rising cost of living.
They are calling for a crackdown on supermarket profiteering to bring down food prices, and more support for people with rocketing mortgages and rents.
To cut energy bills, they are campaigning for a windfall tax on energy firm profits.
COMMUNITY
Lib Dem Councillors are active and visible in our community.
They regularly attend and support local events and hold advice surgeries across our area to provide support to local people.
They also knock on doors regularly and keep in touch via their Focus newsletters.
CRIME & POLICING
Lib Dem Councillors meet with the police regularly to raise residents’ concerns about local crime.
They want to make sure Sutton remains one of the safest boroughs in London.
They are calling for more community policing in our area and for every crime to be properly investigated.
TRANSPORT
Lib Dems are campaigning to bring local train services back to pre-pandemic levels.
They've secured £3 million to double the frequency of trains to Belmont Station.
Lib Dems are also leading the fight against the Mayor of London's cuts to local bus routes, like the 213.
ENVIRONMENT
Lib Dems are improving our local parks and green spaces, planting trees and installing new equipment in local playgrounds.
They are tackling fly-tipping to keep our area clean and tidy, and taking real action against climate change.
