Plan to rescue ponds after hot summer leads to algae blooms

Liberal Democrat Councillors are aiming to improve the health of Carshalton Ponds using natural methods, after rising temperatures and a changing climate have led to an increase in algae blooms.

Councillors have been working with experts from the South East Rivers Trust, the Council’s Environment Team, and local charity EcoLocal on a plan to plant aquatic plants in the pond to help restore the water’s chemical balance and reduce algae build-ups.

The team also hope to organise a big pond clean-up to remove rubbish.

Cllr Andrew Jenner, said:
“We know how much people care about these ponds, and we really want to make this a big community effort to look after them.

“If you have any expertise, would like to get involved, or even just share your opinion, please get in touch with us.”
