“Obligation to establish the truth” of Gaza genocide, says Bobby Dean MP
Bobby Dean MP has called for full accountability for the genocide in Gaza, urging the UK Government to back international efforts to investigate the atrocities and bring those responsible to justice.
With a recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas having been reached resulting in the return of hostages, there is relief that the immediate violence has paused but deep uncertainty remains about lasting stability in the Middle East after years of tragedy. A recent United Nations report found that Israel committed acts amounting to genocide in Gaza.
Bobby Dean stressed that while securing peace must be the priority, justice and accountability are essential to ensure that such atrocities are never repeated.
Bobby has now raised this issue twice in the house since the ceasefire was agreed - using his first frontbench appearance on the topic and also raising it with the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee directly in the Chamber.
Bobby Dean MP said:
“ There is indescribable relief that the hostages are now heading home and the bloodshed can come to an end. The immediate concern is that the ceasefire holds, and the hope is that there will be a just and sustainable peace in the region, including a two-state solution.
"As we look to the future, it is also important that we do not forget what happened before. A few weeks ago there was a UN report that a genocide had taken place in Gaza, and it is the international community’s obligation to establish the truth and hold those responsible to account.”
