Parents and carers in Carshalton and Wallington are increasingly worried about the impact of social media and excessive screen use on their children’s concentration and mental health.

National figures show nearly a quarter of children now spend more than four hours a day on devices.

In response to these concerns, local MP Bobby Dean has launched the Safer Screens Tour, a series of informal conversations where parents can share their worries and their ideas about how to keep children safe online.

The first three events, held in August, saw dozens of parents join the discussion. Building on the strong response, two new dates have now been announced:

29 September | 15:00 – 16:30 | David Weir Leisure Centre, St Helier

7 October | 11:00 – 12:30 | Church of Good Shepherd, Carshalton

Bobby Dean MP said:

“Parents have been telling me how worried they are about what their children are exposed to online and how long they spend glued to their screens. Social media and tech companies have deliberately designed these platforms to be as addictive as possible so it’s left a lot of families feeling unsure about what can actually be done.

“I’m holding the Safer Screens Tour to listen directly to parents, understand their concerns, and work together on how we protect children’s mental health.”
