Forgotten land turned into community garden

Sutton Primary Care Networks, based in Wallington, has recently spearheaded a remarkable project that demonstrates the power of collaboration between local organisations and ward councillors.

The initiative began when Holy Trinity Church in Wallington, recognising the potential of an unused piece of land near its entrance on Maldon Road, approached the local ward councillors for assistance.

Holy Trinity, with its community connections, put the Council in touch with a local NHS organisation, Sutton Primary Care Networks. The Council responded positively, granting permission to revitalise what had previously been an unsightly and neglected area.

What makes this project truly special is the involvement of several local organisations that support individuals in recovery, experiencing homelessness, serious mental illness, and survivors of domestic abuse. Working together, they have transformed this waste ground into a beautiful garden, symbolising growth, renewal, and hope—for both the space itself and those involved in the project.

Visit the open garden, Space to Grow Wallington, located next to the Holy Trinity Church car park entrance on Maldon Road, Wallington, and experience this wonderful project for yourself.
