Bobby Dean MP renews calls for investigation into Chemmani mass graves
Thirty years on from the murder of Tamil school girl Krishanthy Kumaraswamy, Bobby Dean has renewed calls for an independent investigation.
Monday, 7th September 2026, marked thirty years since the brutal murder of Krishanthy Kumaraswamy, a Tamil school girl in Sri Lanka, and the three family members that went looking for her. Public outrage then led to the discovery of 600 human remains in Chemmani, North Sri Lanka.
During the Sri Lankan Civil War, Tamils experienced extreme systemic violence and ethnic cleansing at the hands of the government.
Amnesty International reports that there have been at least 60,000 forced disappearances in Sri Lanka since the 1980s. The Chemmani mass graves serve as a brutal reminder of this, as well as the oppression that Eelam Tamils continue to face.
Vice-Chair of the Tamils All Party Parliamentary Group, Bobby Dean MP said,
“Tamil victims and families of the disappeared deserve truth, justice and accountability. There must be a fully funded, independent international investigation and I will continue to push for this.”
Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Ed Davey recommitted the party to the struggle for justice, peace and human rights.
