Bobby backs local business and calls to axe “jobs tax”

Local businesses are facing increasing pressures from rising costs and the government’s decision to increase employer National Insurance contributions, branded as a “jobs tax”.

Liberal Democrat analysis of official ONS figures shows that small business job vacancies fell by almost a fifth in the three months to July, compared to the three months before the Government announced the rise in employer National Insurance.

Bobby Dean, Liberal Democrat Member of Parliament for Carshalton and Wallington, recently met with the Chief Executive of the London Chamber of Commerce, attended a business breakfast with more than 20 local employers, and visited local  independent shops and small firms to hear first hand the pressures businesses are facing.

Bobby Dean MP said:
 “Local businesses are already struggling after years of the Conservatives’ economic mismanagement. Now the Chancellor’s so-called ‘jobs tax’ is making a bad situation worse, punishing small businesses and putting local jobs at risk.

“The government needs to back local businesses and it must start by scrapping this damaging jobs tax and overhauling business rates so our high streets and small firms can thrive.”
