Islington Liberal Democrats have selected Rebecca Taylor as their candidate for the Hillrise ward by-election.

Health charity worker Rebecca is originally from Yorkshire, but has lived in Islington since 2009. She lives with her partner and young son on a City of London corporation estate where they are leaseholders. Rebecca’s son was born in the Whittington hospital and attends a local Islington primary school. Rebecca is backing the campaign to save the Whittington’s maternity unit.

Rebecca is a keen cyclist who has cycled to work in London for many years. She supports active travel policies that make it easier for people to walk or cycle around London and action to reduce cycle theft.

She is campaigning for better policing, cleaner streets, better recycling services and urgent action on housing repairs.

Rebecca says, “Living on an estate, I know the difference that a decent repairs service can make. Hillrise’s Tenant Management Organisations do an amazing job and need more support. Too many Islington tenants have been living with neglected homes for far too long. It’s time for the Council to stop talking and start acting.”

Rebecca adds, “Islington Council has been a virtual one-party state for far too long. We cannot let Labour take us for granted. Hillrise deserves an independent minded councillor who will always put this area, not the Labour Town Hall, first.”
