Your Lib Dem Candidates

Meerav Shah and Conrad Wood candidates

Meerav Shah

Meerav is a proud Peabody Estate resident with a track record of getting things done. He has challenged unfair housing conditions, tackled antisocial behaviour head-on, and fought to hold local bodies accountable. As an active member of the Peabody Tenant Association, a regular at local police meetings, and a school governor at three Hammersmith primary schools, Meerav is already deeply embedded in the fabric of this community. He knows what residents are facing because he's facing it too.

Conrad Wood

Conrad brings over 30 years of senior leadership experience in technology across the UK and EU, helping businesses modernise and grow responsibly. But Hammersmith isn't just a place Conrad works, it's home. Born and raised here, he has long been a vocal community advocate: regularly petitioning the local MP on street safety, speaking out against human rights violations in the Middle East, and supporting the West London EU movement. Conrad knows how to get complex things done, and he's ready to put those skills to work for this ward.

Our Flagship Policies

Housing

Key Issues

  1. Mould and misery scandal: Residents have been left living with damp, leaks and unsafe conditions for years, with the council and housing providers repeatedly criticised for their failures.
  2. Repairs crisis: Residents continue to complain about contractor absenteeism and the inability to get issues fixed right first time. In some cases, we have heard of residents having to have contractors out 5-6 times before an issue has been resolved.
  3. Chronic underinvestment in housing: Labour-run H&F Council has talked a big game on housing while persistently missing housebuilding targets, spending huge sums on temporary accommodation instead of permanent homes.

How we will address them

  • Launch an emergency taskforce to audit housing conditions across all types of property
  • Introduce strict repair deadlines for council properties with emergency fixes within 24 hrs and publish contractor performance data so residents can see who is responsible for missed repairs and broken appointments
  • Invest in a local housing casework service so residents (including leaseholders, shared owners and renters) get real help navigating complaints
  • Make sure every resident knows about Awaab's Law, which now legally requires landlords to inspect damp and mould within 14 days and complete repairs within 7 and use it as a lever for enforcement when they don't
  • Commit to never reducing the level of social housing in H&F, and actively grow it through a new voluntary acquisition programme. We will offer a fair price to any homeowner wishing to sell, with no pressure or obligation, channelling these purchases directly into rebuilding our social housing stock. By making the process streamlined and straightforward, we aim to become the first-choice buyer for residents looking to sell.

Antisocial Behaviour and Crime

Key Issues

  1. More coordinated policing: Labour has cut police visibility, tried to close police counters, and left residents unsure where to turn when they need help, while the council’s Law Enforcement Team (LET) often operates in isolation, causing confusion, delays, and ineffective responses.
  2. Not solving the root cause: Labour focuses on enforcement after the fact, not prevention, while antisocial behaviour continues to blight lives.

How we will address them:

  1. Keep the counter open at Hammersmith Police Station
  2. Bring the LET under the Met Police's borough commander for better coordination and faster responses
  3. Push for dispersal orders and exclusion zones for repeat offenders, not just cautions that achieve nothing
  4. Increase funding for youth centres and community groups, giving everyone access to safe spaces and alternatives to crime
  5. Invest in Turning Point programmes to address drug and alcohol issues, tackling the root causes of antisocial behaviour

Accountability for Elected Officials

Key Issues:

  1. I cannot name my councillor: Labour & Tory councillors seem to only surface during election season. On the doorsteps we find lifelong Labour voters can't even name their councillor. We don't think this is acceptable.
  2. Lack of transparency: Too often, residents are left in the dark about decisions that affect their streets. Council decisions are made behind closed doors without councillors justifying their voting record.

How we will address them:

  1. Hold weekly drop-in sessions throughout the council term for residents to come and talk about their concerns.
  2. Post fortnightly video updates on what we have been up to as councillors so you can see how your money is being spent.
  3. Organise quarterly community forums in local venues to enable residents to hold us fully to account.
  4. Commit to publish clear justifications for every vote we make, so you know exactly why we took each decision

Our Other Priorities

Transport

  • We support expanding active transport responsibly across the borough. We will only license e-mobility operators with a strong commitment to responsible parking, requiring geofencing, in-app guidance, and user accountability. Operators must meet clear standards subject to regular auditing, and in line with other councils, we will issue warnings, penalties, or revoke licences where standards are repeatedly breached.

Social Care

  • Following the CQC's recent "requires improvement" rating of H&F council, we will push to reduce unacceptable assessment wait times, strengthen support for unpaid carers, and ensure services are accessible to all residents regardless of language or background. We will protect H&F's commitment to free, non-means-tested home care, helping elderly and disabled residents live independently in their own homes

Protecting our Walkways

  • As of October 2026, Labour has scheduled to allow e-scooters on the Thames Path. We will always prioritize pedestrians on the path and work with electric bicycle manufacturers and rental companies to integrate technology into e-bikes that ensures safe and authorized use of public spaces.

Traffic Flow around St Dunstein’s Road

  • Taking inspiration from the success of measures on Rivercourt Road, we will push for similar traffic calming on St Dunstan's Road, which is increasingly blighted by through traffic and cut-through driving.

Procuring local

  • Prioritise local businesses across all council tenders and private service contracts, supporting them to take on larger projects and creating jobs for H&F residents - recognising that employing locally has value beyond cost alone.

SEND Education

  • Ensure that every child with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) receives the support they need without having to leave the borough. We will push for greater investment in local SEND provision and additional needs school places, so that families are not forced to seek placements elsewhere.
