Home Secretary: Kent keeps its own police force
Home Secretary Charles Clarke has announced that Kent should have its own strategic police force and will not have to merge with neighbouring counties to create a south eastern 'super force'.
New boundaries for the 2024 General Election.
From the 2024 General Election, the Parliamentary Constituency of Folkestone and Hythe will include the District of Folkestone and Hythe wards of Broadmead, Cheriton, East Folkestone, Folkestone Central, Folkestone Harbour, Hythe, Hythe Rural, New Romney, Romney Marsh, Sandgate & West Folkestone, Walland & Denge Marsh.
The electorate will be reduced to bring it within the permitted range by transferring out the North Downs area in the north (North Downs East and North Downs West wards), along with the parts in the Borough of Ashford (Saxon Shore ward), primarily to the reconfigured constituency of Ashford.

The Lib Dems have swept to victory in the Cheriton by-election for Folkestone Town Council this evening, with over 200 votes more than the Conservatives who came second. The result in full was:
The by-election to elect a new Town Councillor for Cheriton is taking place tomorrow. The polls are open from 8am - 9pm. All the signs are that the result will be a close finish between the Conservative candidate and Lib Dem Tim Prater.
