Following media reports that Rishi Sunak, when he was Chancellor of the Exchequer, blocked progress on rebuilding Hinchingbrooke Hospital, Ian Sollom, the Lib Dem candidate for St Neots and Mid Cambs, has condemned the inaction of the Government.

Ian Sollom said:

“The negligence of Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives is putting the lives of the residents of Cambridgeshire at risk.“Patients and visitors have known for years that the buildings at Hinchingbrooke Hospital were long past their design life and were becoming dangerous.

“In the 2019 General Election, the Conservatives promised to rebuild Hinchingbrooke Hospital. We have now found out that, in a scandalous decision, the Treasury under Rishi Sunak refused funding for the work in 2020, causing a delay of 3 years.

“The Tory government knew at the time that Hinchingbrooke Hospital was riddled with crumbling RAAC concrete well past its lifespan.

“The people of St Neots and Mid Cambs need representatives that make sure that decent and safe healthcare facilities are provided.”
