Pippa Heylings, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary candidate for South Cambridgeshire has been named in the first ever national Power List of political environmental champions, published today.

Pippa’s inclusion in the ENDS Report Power List recognises a lifetime of commitment to environmental causes. Pippa runs her own business bringing local community voices into decision-making and advising national and local governments on climate and environmental issues. She has worked all over the world, attending the UN Climate and Nature summits to speak up for the planet and the rights of local communities. Pippa was instrumental in the creation of the Galapagos Islands Marine Reserve, serving as mediator to get from conflict to consensus in the creation of its management plan. Here in South Cambs, Pippa has spearheaded the drive to make the district lead the way on the green agenda as chair of its Climate Change committee, for which the council has received two national awards. From zero carbon communities grants to a fleet of electric bin lorries to ambitious plans to double nature, under the Lib Dem leadership South Cambs District is prioritizing environmental action. Pippa has also been instrumental in drafting the national Lib Dem Party’s policies on both tackling the climate emergency and restoring nature.

It is a real honour to be included on the first ever ENDS Power List to feature politicians. We are facing many environmental threats, from climate change to nature loss, so the next few years are crucial. Many of us are very worried about the current government’s rowing back on our climate pledges. I hope to continue to be a strong voice for the environment from inside Parliament after the election later this year.
