Ed Davey launches the Lib Dem Battle Bus in South Cambs
Liberal Democrat Leader Ed Davey was in South Cambridgeshire this weekend to launch the Lib Dem battle bus for the general election campaign, alongside local candidate Pippa Heylings. At an event attended by over a hundred local activists, Ed Davey brought a message of hope, that change is possible here at this election.
In many parts of the country, the Lib Dems represent the best chance to defeat the Conservatives – and nowhere is that more true than here in South Cambs. Ed chose South Cambs as the first stop for the bus because he knows how positive activists are feeling here about the chance to elect our area’s first ever Lib Dem MP.
Speaking at the launch, Ed Davey said “This election is our opportunity to kick this out of touch Conservative Government out of office. Our chance for change in our country, to get a fair deal that people so deserve. People across the blue wall are saying they are fed up of being let down. And they know that a vote for the Liberal Democrats can help to get rid of the Conservative government and bring about the change we need.”
Pippa Heylings, Parliamentary candidate for South Cambridgeshire, said “Whether it’s the crisis facing our NHS, families struggling to make ends meet or the scandal of sewage dumped in our rivers, it’s clear wherever you look that Britain needs change. Here in South Cambs, it’s the Liberal Democrats who are placed to deliver that and I am so proud to be standing here. It was fantastic to be joined by Ed Davey today. We were just a few percent behind the Conservatives here last time, with Labour out of the race. We’re determined this time to deliver and offer fresh hope for South Cambs, and the country as a whole.”
Ed Davey then echoed Pippa’s words speaking to Sky News “We have the chance to win the change our country so desperately needs. With people seeing their bills go up through their mortgages, food bills, energy bills and the Conservatives have just made it worse. The NHS is on their knees under the Conservatives, they promised to deliver lots of hospitals but they haven't delivered. People are waiting hours just for an ambulance, they are waiting weeks for a GP appointment, months for urgent cancer treatment. And these Conservatives have allowed the water companies to get away with pumping their filthy sewage onto our rivers and sewage. And that means the Conservatives have to go.”
