County must act now to support Active Travel - Cambridgeshire Lib Dems
Cambridgeshire Liberal Democrats are pressing for action now on Active Travel, as well as safety measures for those using public transport, with a motion to the County Council on Tuesday 19th May.
"I submitted this motion to the Council two weeks ago, and was hoping it would be redundant - but action has failed to happen" said Lib Dem Highways lead Cllr Ian Manning.
The motion notes the reduction in pre-lockdown levels of vehicle traffic, and the measured improvement in air quality and decrease in congestion across the County, and seeks to "ensure that the environmental gains of reduced vehicle traffic are not lost as the economy reopens".
On top of this, says Cllr Manning: "We must find ways for public transport providers to give safe travel to staff who have to get to work that way. It would be an absolute tragedy for car use to return to pre lockdown levels, and all the environmental benefits be lost.".
The motion can be found on pages four and five of the Council's agenda for Tuesday's meeting.
