Conservative Development Corporation shows contempt
Following Michael Gove's announcement of a Development Corporation for the Cambridge area, Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for the new constituency of St Neots and Mid Cambridgshire, Ian Sollom said:
"The Conservatives really are showing complete contempt for people in our area with Michael Gove’s latest announcement on Cambridge 2040. A DevCo for Cambridge and surrounds, bypassing local democracy and accountability, is the crony’s solution to the challenges we face. That the Cambridge Delivery Group announced in the summer and chaired by Peter Freeman has done zero engagement with the public before this announcement speaks volumes.
"If the Government really wants to help our area, they should come and talk to us about what is needed to support our already ambitious plans – the infrastructure of GPs and dentists, a world class public transport system, investment on our schools. A DevCo isn’t required to get critical sustainable water infrastructure built either.
"Anthony Browne was calling Michael Gove’s plan nonsense just a few months ago but is now on the government payroll. We need our MPs to represent us, not sell out."
