LIB DEM CALL FOR WILD FLOWERS
Liberal Democrat county councillor Nichola Harrison is calling on Cambridgeshire County Council to bring wild flowers and wildlife back to verges across the county.
In a written question to the council on Tuesday 23 July, Cllr Harrison is asking Cambridgeshire highways bosses to improve the wildlife potential of road verges, using the experience of organisations such as Plantlife. Plantlife is currently running a UK-wide campaign to get councils to return wild flowers to the UK’s verges.
Cllr Harrison says: “Liberal Democrat councillors agree with Plantlife that well-stocked verges can be a crucial habitat for wild flowers and the wealth of wildlife they support. Cutting the grass less often, while maintaining sight lines for drivers and respecting basic health and safety principles, can also save money – a win-win for the environment and council budgets.”
