The cultural and organisational failings in the Met cannot be solved by a change at the top alone – Caroline Pidgeon
Caroline Pidgeon AM, Leader of the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Group and long-standing member of the London Assembly Police and Crime Committee, commenting on the announcement that Mark Rowley has been appointed the new Met Commissioner:
“I wish Mark Rowley well in his new role. London needs him to be a successful Commissioner, at a time when confidence in the Met is at a record low and the Met has just gone into special measures.
“There is no doubt that the scale of the challenge is immense, but this is about more than just one person. The cultural and organisational failings in the Met cannot be solved by a change at the top alone.
“The Met’s organisational failings and toxic culture require a top to bottom shake-up and the input of experts in organisational management, change and culture. The new commissioner needs to seek that expert help in order to turn around the Met”.
