Job Title: Fundraising and Events Manager

Salary: £30,000-35,000 per annum pro-rata

Tenure: One year initially

Hours: Part-time role (0.6 or 0.8 FTE considered); some evening and weekend work may be required from time to time in particular to support events

Location: Hybrid working (St Albans Lib Dems HQ / home working), with some travel around Hertfordshire and London

Purpose of job

To support Daisy Cooper MP with fundraising, and related communications & events for the St Albans constituency

Background

Off the back of the Liberal Democrats stunning general election result, this is an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with St Albans MP and Liberal Democrat Deputy Leader Daisy Cooper, and some of the experienced staff and volunteer team of St Albans Liberal Democrats.  

We have ambitious targets to reach, and the political momentum is with us. Our fundraising activities are essential to our success. We are looking for a highly organised, motivated, and entrepreneurial team member with strong fundraising skills and a passion for politics.

This is a newly created role which will have responsibility for developing and driving a fundraising strategy to enable further growth across the party and to help fund future elections.

This role offers a strong degree of flexibility, both in terms of hours and location. Subject to essential meetings, there is scope to agree hours that suit an individual who is seeking to balance a rewarding job with other interests or responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

Donor engagement

  • Identify, research and make contact with new prospects and organisations, securing individual meetings or their attendance at donor events, and then converting them into donors
  • Draft donor communications, proposals and prospect research briefs
  • Plan and oversee an engaging programme of donor events throughout the year, with the administrative support of event volunteers
  • Manage relationships with key donors, ensuring they renew or repeat their annual subscriptions/donations each year
  • Undertake prospect research and due diligence into potential donors to ensure they are appropriate and eligible supporters
  • Build a group of ambassadors to grow our network and prospect pipeline
     

Membership Fundraising

Support the volunteer-led local party Executive to develop a membership fundraising strategy to support our political goals, including through a programme of members events, fundraising campaigns, and a legacy fundraising scheme
 

Financial/ Banking (specific compliance training will be provided)

  • Process all incoming donations and add to our database
  • Update the incoming donations tracker & banking report
  • Perform the PPERA checks on all donations where relevant (training will be provided)
  • Organise and track thank you letters from the MP
  • Produce monthly reports to track the donations against the predicted income and to support the MP to declare all registrable interests
     

Communications

  • Draft and send out event invitations for all events
  • Produce regular fundraising communications and achieve sign off before deadline
  • Manage 1-1 donor communications (such as thank you cards) and catch up meetings
     

General Admin

Data cleaning and management of donor databases 
 

Person specification

We are looking for an entrepreneurial, motivated and highly organised individual who will thrive in an externally-facing role and a fast-paced work environment. They may have experience as a fundraiser in a membership or similar setting and will have a real passion for social change.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • At least three years of experience of fundraising and some experience of fundraising with major donors
  • Confident communicator who is able to approach donors and prospects, engage them effectively and make a direct ask
  • Self-starter with strong organisational and time management skills
  • Excellent writing skills and experience in drafting materials and communications for donors
  • Flexibility to work some evenings throughout the year
  • Research experience
  • Sympathy with the aims and values of the Liberal Democrats
  • Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Ideally has an existing network of potential donors
  • Experience of managing volunteers and board members
  • Knowledge of legacy fundraising
