Bridget Smith

Bridget has been the Leader of South Cambridgeshire District Council for the past 6 years and a district councillor for 16 years. She is the lead member for the environment on both the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority and the Oxford Cambridge Pan Regional Partnership. Bridget is the deputy leader for the Lib Dems on the Local GovernmentAssociation Board and the lead Lib Dem on the District Council Network. Bridget began her working life in the health service moving on to Cambridge University to undertake research in deafness. After that she went into education teaching in a number of schools in Cambridgeshire. She became a full time carer for one of her children during which time she published a couple of books and set up a community development charity. Prior to becoming Council Leader Bridget worked as a consultant specialising in environmentally sustainable community buildings and other environmental projects.
