Reflecting on Runcorn & Helsby

As most of you know the result for the Runcorn and Helsby by-election was Friday morning and not the result we Liberal Democrats were hoping for. This is mainly due to the time and effort put in by all the volunteers, which deserved a better result. The dreaded squeeze. It was not all bad. We have new members, plenty of learning and I personally got to know a few more Lib Dems in the wider area. I also will say, as any election, there are ups and downs but I honestly really enjoyed it all. Lastly, I want to thank everyone who contributed in any shape or form. Onwards and upwards.
Paul Duffy. Liberal Democrats Parliamentary Candidate for the Runcorn & Helsby by-election
Reform's success in Runcorn & Helsby was not the only story. The Liberal Democrats are cementing themselves as the progressive alternative to a dying Tory party, and populist far right Reform UK Ltd. We took control of councils in Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire and neighbouring Shropshire. The Lib Dems are now the largest party in Devon, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire & Hertfordshire; and the second largest party in Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, County Durham, Kent & Warwickshire.
This could not have been done without the dedication of our members and volunteers all over the country. Knocking on doors and delivering leaflets all year round, and not just at election time.
At Cheshire West & Chester Lib Dems, we campaign for liberal values, as the antidote to Nigel Farage's simplicity and Labour's complacency. Voters are looking for a progressive alternative to a political climate that keeps steering right, and you could be part of that change.
