Council green-lights pedestrian crossing at the Park Road - Heyes Lane Junction
Cllr Will Frass tells us that the final lap is approaching as our pedestrian crossing petition was debated and passed at Trafford Full Council.
Good news: The Council have told us a Park Road crossing near the junction of Heyes Lane will be put forward for the budget for the next financial year, 2025/26 !
Thank you to everyone who signed the petition last year. We got over 600 signatures.
The Council tried to shut the debate down, but after several months of arguing, I persuaded Trafford that all (or most) of the signatures were - in fact - 'valid' and we must be heard.
One of our local residents gave a brilliant speech to all the Councillors and the idea was supported by all parties. Cllr Menna Minnis spoke on behalf of the Liberal Democrats and told the other Councillors about the dangers of that junction and provided a lot of local knowledge about school routes that was hard to ignore.
But we can all see - not much has happened since...
In fact, a similar petition was brought before the Council in March about a road in Altrincham, and when speaking to respond, I warned them: "the cars are too fast - but Trafford Council is too slow". Timperley Lib Dems understand local councils are not getting the central government funding we got years ago, but safety must be a priority.
Since then, the Director's team have sent the Lib Dems the following confirmation:
"Design work will be undertaken during 2024/25 in anticipation for an early construction in 2025/26. Should additional funding become available in the meantime the scheme can be considered for an earlier implementation."

PS: Trafford is also asking TfGM to see if any funding can be secured earlier to start work sooner - which is the "earlier implementation in the reply above" - but that's not guaranteed.
