Charlotte Cane MP Hosts Community Surgery
Charlotte Cane, Liberal Democrat MP for Ely and East Cambridgeshire, hosted a well-attended community meeting in Littleport on Wednesday evening, bringing together local councillors and residents for a wide-ranging and constructive discussion on issues affecting the town and surrounding villages.
The event was held in two parts: an initial session with local councillors to discuss ward-level priorities, followed by an open town-hall meeting where residents were able to raise questions and concerns directly with their MP. The discussion covered a broad range of topics, including highways, support for childminders, the cost of social care, access to GPs and dentists and building trust in politicians, with a lively and engaged Q&A throughout.
Charlotte Cane has been holding regular community meetings across the constituency since her election, with events in Waterbeach, Ely, Sutton, Soham, Cheveley and Cottenham. She also runs multiple advice surgeries each month, both in person and online, to ensure residents across Ely and East Cambridgeshire can access support easily and raise issues directly.
Speaking after the meeting, Charlotte Cane MP said:
“Thank you to everyone who came along to the Littleport Community Meeting. These conversations are incredibly valuable. Hearing directly from residents about their day-to-day concerns — whether local services, transport, health or national issues — shapes the work I do both in Parliament and here in the constituency. I’m here to listen, and I’m here to help.”
Since being elected in July 2024, Charlotte Cane MP has supported constituents with more than 12,500 individual cases, covering issues such as housing, benefits, public services and other matters where parliamentary representation can make a real difference.
